Alphabet Soup

My name is James Sullivan. I’ve loved listening to music on the radio since the 1950s. If I heard something I liked I went out and bought 45s and albums to play on a record player. Since then, I’ve gone from vinyl to cassettes to CDs to downloading. Over that time I’ve been building a library of my favorite songs.

I worked as a radio DJ in the 1990s and I liked it a lot. Recently, with lots of retirement time on my hands, I thought I’d like to be a DJ again. Using modern “home studio” recording technology I have created a music show that I want to offer to low power FM radio stations – for free.

My show, featuring my library of favorite songs, is –

Alphabet Soup –  cooking up an A to Z mixed bag of songs from artists like Joan Armatrading to ZZ Top, and from genres like Americana to Zydeco. Mostly songs from the 1960s – 1990s with some earlier and later ones mixed in. Some old memories and some new memories in the making.

Alphabet Soup is a 57-59 minute radio show that features 10-15 songs in 3 or 4 song sets with song title/artist info announced between sets. The shows contain no ads. Each show contains station identification info specific to WXOJ-LP, 103.3 FM and streaming on valleyfreeradio.org, Northampton, MA and mentions the day and time of original broadcast.

Visit the WXOJ-LP archives and click on Alphabet Soup to see the date of the shows, click on a date to see the playlist.

Alphabet Soup is available to any non-commercial low power FM. Contact me if you want to download a show for your station.
